Dawn Winkelmann Torres, M.S., CCC-SLP
Owner / Clinical Director
Speech Language Pathologist / Feeding Specialist

Hi! My name is Dawn Winkelmann Torres and I am a high-energy Speech Language Pathologist and Feeding Specialist. I have been blessed with over 23 years of experience evaluating and treating children and adults with Oral Motor, Swallowing and Feeding Disorders as well as Social Skills, Speech and Language Disorders. I pride myself on having a therapeutic atmosphere that is open, FUN and educational for the entire family.

PEDIATRICS: From a speech and language standpoint, I specialize in the medically-fragile child (seizures, tube feeding, brain injury, stroke etc.) as well as children with Down Syndrome, Asperger’s Disorder, High Functioning Autism (HFA), ADD, ADHD, Autism, Pervasive Developmental Disorder (PDD NOS) and other developmental delays.

From an oral motor, sensory, feeding and swallowing standpoint, my expertise is with children with Picky Eating and Problem Feeding issues. I playfully encourage children in my therapy sessions to consume and enjoy food, happily drink supplements and swallow pills safely.

ADULTS: I also serve a wide range of teenagers, adults and geriatrics with Asperger’s Disorder, Stroke, Brain Injury, ADD, ADHD, Autism and Down Syndrome. The focus of therapy is in the areas of speech, language, feeding, swallowing, community reintegration and social skills for college and the workplace.

PROFESSIONALLY: I am a member of the California Speech-Language-Hearing Association (CSHA) and I am licensed by the Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology Board in California. I am a member of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA), the ASHA Swallowing and Swallowing Disorders Dysphagia Special Interest Group (SIG 13), the ASHA Telepractice Special Interest Group (SIG 18) and the National Autism Association (NAA). I have been a recipient of the prestigious Award of Continuing Education (ACE award) from ASHA’s Continuing Education Board (CEB) as recognition of my commitment to ongoing professional development in the field of Speech Pathology.  I am also a member of the Oral Motor Institute (OMI).

I have started and maintained several inpatient/outpatient Modified Barium Swallow (MBS) Study Programs and have developed continuing education courses for other Speech Language Pathologists in the areas of speech and swallowing. I am proud to be a Clinical Fellowship Year (CFY) Supervisor and an off-site Clinical Professor for Santa Ana College for the Speech-Language Pathology Assistant program, training the up & coming therapists of the next generation. I have also published pill swallowing protocols (for both neurotypical children and children on the Autism Spectrum) specifically designed for parents to help their children obtain this essential swallowing milestone.

I have had the privilege of lecturing all over the United States and also speaking on behalf of organizations such as Generation Rescue, The Autism Society of America, Autism Conferences of America, LLC. and Great Plains Laboratory, Inc. to name a few. In addition, I have had the honor of presenting at many parent associations. I love training parents (and grandparents) how to best help their children reach the developmental milestones they need in order to catch up! My therapy techniques have also been highlighted on the Montel Williams Show and China Network Television. And I currently answer parent Feeding and Swallowing questions on Dr. Kurt Woeller’s website www.AutismActionPlan.org.

Hope to see you at the dinner table! ☺

Ms. Dawn:)
